An Invitation from Butterfield Garage Coop Gallery for Plein Air Florida Members
Love,
Linda
Linda Blondheim's new email is: lindablondheim@gmail.com
From: Jan Miller
janmille@bellsouth.net
our website is: www.butterfieldgarage.com
We are a cooperative of professional artists who live and work in St. John's county. We have had a great idea that may appeal to the Plein Air Society of Artists. We would propose having a space in our gallery for about 4 of your artists to exhibit their works. It would be good publicity for Plein Air and those that exhibit may very well sell some art. We would ask for 20% of the sales and the cost per month would be $200.00. Those that show could rotate their work. They would not have to do anything else except change out the exhibit every 2 months or so. Split 4 ways that is only $50 a month per artist and the work would be highly visible. We have tremendous Art Walks on the First Friday of every month...where upwards of 300 people come through the gallery. Please give this some thought....we think it is a great idea. let me know.
Thanks,
Jan Miller

Two Plein Air Florida Artists Share Exhibit
Wednesday, June 4, 2008
Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Forgotten Coast and the Healing Power of Art
Invitational which took place in the Apalachicola Bay area May 8-18, 2008.
Presented by the Gulf Alliance for Local Arts, this is one of the Sunshine
State's premier art events. Twenty professional artists from Florida and
beyond painted on location in such places as Eastpoint, Apalachicola,
St. George Island, Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe and Mexico Beach. There were
daily artist demonstrations, a student art day and numerous social
events. I never ate so many juicy oysters. The 10-day plein air
celebration of Franklin, Gulf and East Bay Counties culminated with
The Grand Patron's Party at the Historic Cotton Exchange in Apalachicola. This
debut of the artist's choice paintings was well attended.
The food, the wine, the music, the people and the
paintings were fantastic. I doubt I'll ever more fun at an art
opening. Everyone,including the promoters,
patrons, hosts and artists were extremely warm and generous.
One subplot that made the event most gratifying occurred when I became part and parcel to the Healing Power of Art. Click here for the rest of the story...

I recently attended a workshop on "Promoting Your Work" at the LighthouseCenter for the Arts
in Jupiter, Florida. The one day event , sponsored by the Florida State Division of Cultural Affairs, was part of the Creative Capital Professional Development Program. Creative Capital is a national grant-making, not for profit, organization that gives project-based funding directly to artists.
The workshop was informative and inspiring. Visual and performing artists from various disciplines attended. The focus of the day was "how to develop an artist's promotional package". Emphasis was placed on goal setting, strategic planning, artist statements and speaking to others about your art. There was plenty of opportunity to network with other artists. It would have been hard not to gain insight into both the creative and business sides of art.
Perhaps the most memorable part of the day was the passion of Creative Capital Team Leader
Jackie Battenfield. Jackie spoke from a place of integrity about her career and her struggles. She instilled hope by reminding us to stay focused on our goals. When Jackie closed the workshop by telling us that she loved us, I knew she was sincere. Do yourself a favor and attend a Creative Capital Workshop. It was free!
Here is an artist statement that was described as excellent by presenter Morgan Lewis of the Florida State Division of Cultural Affairs.

Tree Painting Workshop
Freddy Wood's Farm
Historic
Evinston Florida
November 8-9, 2008
9 AM- 4 PM
Make Up Rain Dates: November 15-16, 2008
150.00 includes the class notebook and instruction. Register at: lindablondheim12@hotmail.comThis is your opportunity to paint on a Florida Heritage Farm in North Central Florida in Historical Evinston Florida.
We will meet at the Wood Swink Post Office , the oldest post office and country store in Florida. Take a step back in time and enjoy painting the huge Live Oaks and tall graceful Sabal palms with lovely views of Orange Lake.
There are beautiful cattle on the land as well and it is completely private so there will be no distractions.
We will focus our study on trees for this workshop, including trunks, limbs, texture, lighting, values, moss, vines color mixing and composition.
The closest restaurant is in Micanopy at Pearl Country Store. It is just about 5 miles away and that is where the closest available bathroom facility is located. We will take a break for lunch and bathroom breaks as needed. Believe me, these minor inconveniences are nothing compared to the beauty and opportunity of painting this landscape. It is my personal favorite location to paint in North Florida.
Camping is available at nearby Paynes Prairie State Park and there are several fish camps in the McIntosh- Orange Lake area which offer clean 2 bedroom trailers for 55.00 per night. US 441 in South Gainesville has many motels available as well ranging from 50.00-125.00 per night.
Come join me to paint this beautiful private farm in North Central Florida.

Paint the Town 2008
Here is a brief litany of by-lines to this year's story:
"Paint the Town 2008" received a lot of attention this year. There were a lot of firsts. We gave a presentation to City Council, we were on the front page of the City's webpage and on St. Pete's official events calendar: http://cms.stpete.org/default.asp?page=1420
We were covered by the St. Pete Times, put on the front page in the Times northern distribution area and were prominent on their webpage: http://blogs.tampabay.com/breakingnews/2008/04/artist-cindy-st.html
We were also covered by the Gulfport Gabber: http://www.thegabber.com/1-10.pdf.
This is awesome publicity. The future looks promising.
The $1,000 first prize went to Ron Marvin for his painting "Yellow Apartment". At Paint the Town 2007 Ron was in the wheelchair he used for 10 years. Due to a new surgical procedure, Ron has regained his ability to walk. I'm thrilled for Ron both because he got an award and because he is ambulatory again. I think I saw a little giddy-up in his step as he left the gallery Saturday evening.
The $500 Second Prize went to Don Eaton for "Dawn Light at the Unitarian Church". His story really warms the heart. Several years ago Don left his nine-to-fiver, so he could pursue his passion for oil painting. Don lives on tight budget and works hard teaching himself to paint. He has been plugging away, painting daily, for several years. His work shows us that hard work does pay off. Good job, Don.
The story line of Opening Night didn't involve an artist. That night I observed how Interior Motives' owner Leslie Curran interacted with the diversely eclectic group of people who came in and out of the gallery on this artwalk night. The extreme ends of the human spectrum included Jerry the homeless guy and noted author Jeff Klinkenburg. Leslie was the same person with all. She gave Jerry the same amount of time and respect as she did Jeff. A wonderful example of how we should treat people. Through Leslie's influence the past few months Jerry has gained the confidence and poise needed to function in a social setting. I have no doubt that he will continue to grow and gain acceptance in society.
As president of SPRAA, Inc., I am feel proud and fortunate that Interior Motives donated the exhibit space for "Paint the Town 2008". I hope this will be home for the show for many years to come.

Val Sandell: Paintings of Historic Spanish Point
Visitors Center Museum Exhibit Gallery
February 13 ~ April 30, 2008
Historic Spanish Point is a beautiful 30 acre historic museum site in Osprey, FL, which is essentially south Sarasota. The history spans from 5000 years ago, which includes an archaeological site, through pioneer era to the winter estate of a wealthy Chicagoan, before it was donated as a museum site. I've done many plein-air paintings there, so was invited to exhibit those, as well as large format studio pieces. Boasting the highest spot on the southwest coast, it has some unique views.
If painters would like to make a field trip, it has a wealth of subject matter. I also have an excellent restaurant recommendation for lunch or dinner after viewing the exhibit. It's five minutes from the Museum Exhibit Gallery.

New Plein Air Exhibit in Sarasota coming February!
There will be an exciting new plein air art exhibit at the Women’s Resource Center in Sarasota from February 7th to March 27th, 2008, which will feature recent works by thirteen well-known local plein air artists including talented artist and teacher Julie Hanson, a graduate of the Ringling College of Art, whose award-winning works have been featured at Art Uptown, Art Center Sarasota, the Venice Art Center, and Art Center Manatee, among others. The exhibit titled, “The Colors of Florida and Beyond” will feature an eclectic mix of vibrantly colored and wonderfully textured plein air landscapes that have been sensitively rendered by Julie Hanson and her circle of plein air painters, that include Betsy Bisson, John Blue, Shirley Carron, Chris Torgerson Dibble, Heidi Gaudry, Penny Hendry, Maryanne Jacobsen, Sally Birnkrandt Myers, Dorothy Nichols, Ingrid Seals, Karen Williams, and Anita Zimmerman. These thirteen plein air painters represent a wonderfully diverse national and international mix of backgrounds and artistic accomplishments, and their works portray a refreshing and jewel-like array of paintings after the tradition of the French Impressionists.
